Question about tail of sallet

Post by dsearson »

I appreciate all the help from you folks.

I am finishing up the sallet from the pattern from a Russian site.

There are 3 tail pieces to that helmet. (The 3 pieces that attach to the back)

When I rivet the 3 tail pieces together and onto the helmet, should the rivets be very solid so there is no movement between the 3 pieces? Or should I allow the 3 tail plates to have some movement? I am not sure what the authentic similar sallets had on them.

For some reason I am under the understanding there should be some movement so that when the wearer puts the helmet on the tail pieces will move up and down.

Thanks again.

It is the "Standard" view that Sallet tails articulate...IE move.
Never having had the chance to see or handle a "Period" piece... That is all I can Say.
