It's a great tourney, I would encourage every squire who is able to enter it and see how s/he measures up. Good way of meeting people you normally wouldn't, too.

Hark their shuddering calls of terror
At his fearful fighting pæan.

Fight in this tourney if you are a squire. It is a great honor, and the fighting is excellent. I cherish my memories of fighting in it as well...

Alas, i shall be unable to attend Pennsic this year, however, I begin plans now to attend next year. I will join you, my brothers, then.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle

i have received a number of questions regarding the tourney so let me try to kill them all with one post:

the format will be an atlantian speed tourney. we average around 150 fighters each year and we get down in around an hour.

it will be double elim

it will be fought with atlantian combat conventions.

face thrusts are allowed

you can fight with any weapon in which you are authorized

atlantias rules regarding the appearance of fighters will only apply to atlantians. if your knight wants to be represented on the field by a blue plastic barrel then so be it.

there is no fee to enter

knights/masters must accompany their students to the list and sign the scroll

this is a tournament open to SQUIRES. if you are not in fealty to a member of the order of the chivalry in the sca you may not participate (happens every year)

the finals will be fought best two out of three or as a single bout as chosen by the finalists.

sign up will begin one hour before the tourney.

and finally, if your knight will not be at pennsic and you wish to fight you (or your knight) need to contact me. if your knight is off shopping at pennsic while you are trying to enter this list you should go shopping with him. every year someone decides to hold their kingdom chiv meeting right when my tourney starts. hopefully that wont happen this year. but, if it does, no fear. just remind them that the tourney is there and that they will be missed. perhaps they can make the last few minutes or so.

duke alaric will be supplying beer for everyone after the tourney is over! :D

regards
logan

ok so i lied, alaric will however be around to tell stories of his great acts as a squire......

next most popular question is:

what time do i sign in?

ahhh good question. the tourney starts around 3 so we will start letting knights/masters sign their students in around 2 or so.

seems to be a lot of interest brewing already! hope to see many of you there.

logan

had another question asked that i thought would be best answered here.

the atlantian rules regarding blatantly modern materials on the field will only be enforced on atlantian citizens at the squires tourney. as long as you meet your kingdoms requirements you are ok. although i would hope that you would be proud enough to look your best.

YG,

I will not be at Pennsic (I may but the chances are very slim right now) and I have a squire who is interested in fighting in this tourney. What can I do to accomodate both his wishes and your requirements?

While many have already left for the fields of Glory in the Debatable Lands, I would recommend to you all to pass word of this tourney to all in your kingdoms. Use electronic lists, phones, and even the mighty pen to get all who would challenge for feats of glory, honor, and valor on the fields for the squires tournament.

Last year was a splendid display of tenacity tempered with honor, and I would expect no less this year. I have passed this information to the marshall lists of the East. I pray that you do the same with your local lists.

Sir Lothar

Question for HG Logan

Post by Lothar the Wanderer »

Your Grace Logan,
I received the following question. It is a unique situation where a beloved knight passed away leaving a handful of squires and a noble wife without the chivalric leadership. The household lives on with the gentle teachings of Aerestorm and the marshall prowess of ?her? squires in the absence of Aelfwine. Please read the question for yourself. My answer follows as well.

Lothar,
there are a few of us who are squired to the memory of a knight, who is no longer with us...are we SOL,
or do we have to borrow a knight from somewhere else?Real Cool(tm) Tourney, however it works out.

-Master Ekkehardt,
(Squire to the memory of Earl Sir Aelfwine)

My answer:
Ekk,
I am sure that there are knights who will support you for the day if His Grace doesn't recognize your devotion. I for one will support any of Aelfwine's squires. He was a good man and a sad loss.

Re: Question for HG Logan

Post by cassandra »

logan has already left for pennsic but asked me to respond...

if you are a squire who will be at pennsic, but your knight will not then it is perfectly fine for you to fight - you should get to sign-in early and speak to logan in person (sign-in starts at 2pm)

if you are a squire at pennsic and your knight will also be there, your knight is expected to come out and sign the scroll

if you are a knight who will be at pennsic but do not have a squire fighting in the tourney, logan would love for you to come out, sign the scroll and support the tourney
