Ladies and Gentlemen,
A good friend in the SCA has just had his helme stolen from his garage.
Please keep an eye open for it. The helm is one of a kind and made specifically for the SCA.
It can be seen here...
http://www.geocities.com/p_hayes2/armory.html
It was made by Alan Bauldree.
Please contact me or Alan, or even any member of the Midrealm Chivalry if you have any information we can pass on the the authorities.

Guys could we get this thread made into a sticky and cross posted so that we can at least get the message out to more Archivers that we all need to be on the look out for this man's property?

Mord.
Mine was stolen Thanksgiving weekend '93, that year, for Christmas, the people of my shire gave me almost enough to replace it.
Put together the collection stuff, I'm in.

Sure, I'll be happy to throw a few bucks in. Maybe set up an account through Paypal we can all give to?

I virtually guarantee that the helm was stolen by somone who is SCA. Probably someone who is known to the owner and who has probably been to his house before.
Either that or some stupid teenager who liked the looks of it and then probably discarded it in a dumpster somewhere.
Was anything else taken with the helmet?

Hmm good point tarquin. If the helmet was taken out of his garage his house insurance, if he has any, should cover the cost of replacement. Of course with a one of a kind item like that it is hard to put a price tag on it.
From what i have seen its value would likely be worth a claim though.

The juice for the squeeze would NOT work. Even if he only had a $250 deductable (most have 500-1000) the insurance co might raise the rates or drop him completly. They also track claims against houses as well as individuals. too many claims against a house and no one will insure it. Hate to say it if it doesn't turn up, bend over and start over...

He wont be able to claim on homeowners insurance..the rates will hike and he will end up paying double the price in the long run (his own words). The "craven worm" stole many tools and other misc. leather armour items. Gunner thinks it was probably a thief of chance looking for tools and shiny things, not knowing the value of the helm, however this is purely speculation. I'm betting it is being drove around in the theif's junker car being shown to his crack head buddies and will end up in a pawn shop or alley somewhere (sigh). Now I feel vendicated for my house resembling Fort Knox gold reserve vault.

I live in a suburb of Cinci. (West Chester) I went out today looking in pawn shops all over town to see if I could recover my youth pastor's Guitar and Amplifier (1979 Black Epiphone Explorere with white pick guard and Mesa Boogie Nomad) that were stolen from my church. (honistly who steals from a church)
I went to every pawn shop I could find around here. no guitar... no helm
it isn't in west chester

Has anything been found out about his helm? Was a collection started? I would like to offer a few bucks if it was! Some people steal things they don't even need. Never understood it. No one in the SCA or WMA could possibly be able to use this or even display it without someone seeing it. I will also cross reference this thread on the Sword Forum and see if maybe that helps.

The Springfield Ohio that's just south of Akron? If so, I could poke around some pawn shops and look for it.
Also, I cannot see the picture either. Geocities says there is no such page.

Anyone wanting to help replace his helm...contact Alan Bauldree, abhammer I think is his login.
For those who can't see the helm, it was a VERY customized stainless steel spagnen helm.
It had customized brasswork around the brow, boars and thors hammers.
I'll see if there is a copy of the pic that I can paste in here.

I would be happy to contribute as well.
