Ailettes - anyone use them in SCA combat?

Post by Lucian Ro »

Just came across ailettes in my seach for information on coat-of-plates. Anyone wear ailettes for SCA combat?
I know the arguement seems to be that they were mainly worn for heraldric reasons, but it seems to me they could serve as shoulder protection also with a bit of modification ...

Sure do. Just as a for instance, look under the Armor of the Month board and look for Sir Ranthulfr Asparlundr posted by Templar Bob. I have a set as well and they do function for shoulder protection somewhat, although I'm sure that they could be made to do so better.
