Need Sheet Brass!

Post by mercenary »

Where on Earth can I get sheet brass? This can be answered by telling me an actual online store, or telling me "go to Home Depot", or something of the sort. Your comments are much appreciated.

sheet brass

Post by garrett du bouclier noir »

I have had good luck getting cheap brass using the old kick plates from the bottom of doors used in public/industrial settings. I get it from a surplus place that sells all sorts of used junk. If you look around your area I am sure that you can find a place like that.

FOr thicker stock use pushplates on doors as it is thicker material than the kick plates.

I get my specialty brass from R. J. Leahy. Just bought 2 square feet of 18 gauge for 13 dollars, not bad.

Alot of kick plates are brass plated, Use only solid brass they will say.
I have gotten Brass from McMaster-Carr, and other suppliers. If I need a little, I have gotten the kick plates from home depot, but the 13.00 dollar one sounds like the plated one.

Ave!

Online Metals is especially good for small orders. You can find them and several other sources on the Legio XX Suppliers page,

And don't neglect your local scrap yards and recycling centers! A few of them will still sell brass by the pound, WAY cheaper than buying new kickplates at Home Depot.

Check at metal recycling places. I buy my brass here for $0.35 a pound!

If you are looking for the thin stuff for making points or belt plates go to your local hobbie shop.

And there I was, after cutting the kickplate, saying to myself, "Self, that brass sure is shiny on the inside, it almost looks white."
I now assume that that is tin or something similar?

A big ole' 'duh' award to me, thanks Alan.
