I agree with Stephen, Lewis Moore is one of my favorites! Besides, you could make that yourself with a little research and elbow grease.

Maybe my computer is broken, but it only says $233 for the price. It probably has $100 in stainless alone. I think this is a great price for the materials and time and effort that went into making it. I also think that it came out pretty nice looking as well, and I am not a fan of COP's.

The mild steel breastplate is a good deal for only $200.

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Sir Andreas Eisfalke- I think we both are right in this one. I think for a person who does not want to make or attempt to make his or her own armour it is a decent deal. For a person who has been thinking of trying his hand at a armour project like a COP I would say this is not so much a good deal and to make one yourself less exspensivly.
There is also nothing wrong with not wanting to make armour :-)

I did not want to imply someone was being lazy by not wanting to make thier own.

As far as COP goes, this one is not that great.

There is no overlapping of lames, which allow for both flexibility and increased protection. Basically, each of these plates can only spread out the blow over the area of the plate-not that much better than no armor at all since the plates are pretty small.

You can do a much better job your self with a little research.

That's because it's an armored surcoat, and not a wisy-style COP... I don't believe those plates are SUPPOSED to overlap... and it is perfectly appropriate to the 14th century. My wife has an image (can't remember the artist) of a Cuman mercenary getting his money from the paymaster, and something like three of the guys are wearing them.

I bought a leather sleeveless jerkin made for the Brit Military. It was brand new and lined with green wool. I got it for $15.00 on ebay. I cut out the lining and I am in teh process of riveting 16 G stainless plates that measure 4x4 to eht front of it. I will use toggles to close it. I figure it will run me about $30.00 when I am done. I will use it for the steel work I do. I will wear it over a gambeson instead of maille. I am glad it is sleeveless though. It sure dont breath well.

I really wanted that mild steel cuirass with tassets.
Didn't have the greenbacks at the time, but still thought it was a darn good deal.

Wanted the C.O.P. as well, but the bidding just got nuts.
It did start out as a good deal, with no reserve.
I'd imagine the seller is pretty happy. Getting rid of used armor at premium prices.

But speaking of C.O.P.'s , how about this one?

Here is another one off e-bay, the plates are aluminium though if that is an issue. The price so far is a bit more reasonable.

The last two posted ones are good. I like the second to last one, personally. However, it is NOT worth more than about $300.00. How it almost achieved a "master" ranking is scary.

Reasons why it is NOT a $650.00 CoP(a price that would demand exact historical accuracy and even then... paying $650 for a CoP should have someone committed):

- the use of suede as a material
- reinforced leather strap holes
- speed/jiffy rivets
- silver rivets with a goofy brass "rosette"
- shoulders, not sure what's up with that
- as an "excellent replication of the Wisby coat of plates #3"... it should only have three horizontal front plates

The last one posted is definitely your best bet. If you need a CoP and it fits... I would get it.

Both are based off of Wisby finds.

The intial one is crap and not worth the materials used to make it. Especially for SCA "combat", the lack of overlapping plates makes it not too good. What is the historical basis, Braveheart?
