Illusion armoring- Why are they so slow???
Hi, I'm looking for a sallet and after much reserch, Illusion Armoring fits to most of my needs. Good price for a good quality. I don't want anything over the top. Just something affordable but still with a nice shape and finish.
Now, I've cheched on this forum for feedback, yes they are slow, but I've noticed that some members ordered by phone. Where is that phone number??? It's nowhere to be seen on the webpage.
Would anybody be nice enough to give me Illusion's number? Or if you know the guy, tell him that he's got mail.
Thank you

I will hail them as being one of the most dependable as well. I have ordered from them multiple times and they have never missed an estimated ship date by more than 10 days.
I received gauntlets from them that bit me on the thumb. They let me send them back and they custom modified them to the problem at hand and shipped them back to me within a week and charged me nothing.
I always order via postal service and you will receive a written confirmation of your order back promptly from Lynette. Email is your best option to communicate with them and be somewhat patient depending on how busy they are, but Lynette has always gotten back to me within a week or so of contacting her.
If you are looking for a quick armour fix I would recommend going elsewhere unless they have it in stock.
You will get EXACTLY what you pay for with them and you will get no surprises in my experience.
I would buy from them again in a heartbeat and I have spent literally thousands of dollars with them on multiple occassions.

speed/quality/price. choose two and you'll almost never get the other.
Unless if you're dealing with Lewis Moore...
I got a Spangenhelm from him on Ebay, didn't fit... $75... I sent it back to him, he made me a new helmet for free... Paid him an extra $150, he put a full-face aventail on it. Paid $55 to get the first one here, back to him, and the new one here... I'll be here today!!! He made the whole helmet for me in two days last week, and I'd only planned the project about a week and a half before... Overall, It's not even been two months since I got the original spangenhelm, and I even got to play with that!
My total:
$280 for this (firt picture is in an uncompleted stage):

Now, the deal I got was partially because I'm a poor, helpless teenager who's good at diplomacy, but, as far as I'm concerned, if you're looking for speed and good prices, AS WELL as quality (yes, all three in one package, first time I've ever seen it, now that I think about it!) then I'd suggest Lewis...
Illusion is awesome, and their stuff is great and cheap, but I think Lewis can beat them out in speed for sure, and he's already tailing them in quality and price like a one-man band on a field of hundreds... He's also taken armouring up as his profession, but isn't too busy (yet) and has time to do LOTS of talking about projects so that he can deliver what you want, when you want it!

Ordering from Illusion..
The trick to getting your stuff from Illusion is to order only production items from them. If you try to order anything custom you are going to wait...and wait...and wait.....

I would not agree with that as I have ordered 3 different times from them over the past 10-15 years. Each order was a custom build and for multiple pieces. I was quoted a delivery (which they post on their website anyway as a guideline) and they nailed it within a few days to a week.
Communication can at times be a bit slow, but Lynette always does take time to reply to emails giving extremely detailed replies to my sometimes extremely dumb-assed questions.
I do not know what you are after, but you might want to wait until a week or so after Estrella and see what they have in stock. Many of the armouries that attend the War do have excess stock for a short while afterwards and this is a good chance for someone looking to buy armour from an armoury that usually has a longish wait.

No Meaddrinker, I sent him BACK the Spangenhelm I got, and in return, he made me this helmet... This is a conical, spectacled, fully-aventailed Eastern helmet.
You've seen the pictures of it completed in my Varangian thread, but here it is, after I got it. Splendid piece!

Lol, no problem... I did mention the old one a couple of times, didn't I?
By the way, I forgot to say earlier, I really like the title of this thread... It could be made out so offensively by some, and by most, it simply gets to the point about as fast as a jet gets from one coast to the other!
Cheers!

Finally found what I want at Arma Bohemia. It cost a little more than I wanted to put on a helmet but it looks really really good. It even has a folded edge and the padding is included....
I thought I would pay an arm and a leg for the shipping put it turned out to be not that bad. 16$ CAN for air travel from Prague to Québec City.
Check out this beauty: http://www.armabohemia.cz/imgnew/armure ... lma4_v.jpg
My final decision rested on the fact that I need my sallet for spring. I could have rushed my sallet from Illusion put it would had cost way more (something like 550$ CAN total for a 405$ CAN sallet) for a sallet of good quality. For 570$ CAN I have a higher quality sallet with a folded edge and padding (not to mention those big and beautiful decorative rivets) . If I order more armor, it'll be from Illusion... I'll just have to plan ahead.

Those helms are sweet!! Unfortunanately i'm going 15th century.
Thanks to all for the advice. hehe i'm so picky, you couldn't imagine. It's was hard for me to make up my mind with all those great armourers.
Gregory: I hope I didn't offence anybody with the title of this thread. I trully respect Scott Martin for his beautiful work and Lynette is one of the nicest people to deal with. It is for these reasons that I will purchase from them in the future. I think it the reason why they have so much work, they are in demand for the great work they do.
