WMA: that's not the issue. The swiss helm i have gagued at 16 ga. That should cover the legality, as to saftey, if you've ever buggered with ww2 pots, you know how hard they are (pretty much they are hardened carbon steel). There wa at one point a proviso in the rules that made using mundane military helms as a base for an SCa helm verboten.

Good God Man!
If those are M1936 German helmets of the Second World War (and not Spanish knock offs - there are several ways to tell, the German hemets have folded edges and the Spanish ones have a hole for a 'crest' on the front), then do not change or alter them in any way!!!!!
Those are worth big bucks to colletors (I saw a falschrimjaeger pot going for 1400 dollars, in mediocre condition.) Never mind the historic value, regardless of my general revulsion to the third reich. You could sell them and buy a helmet from Mac for God's sake!
If they are Spanish, then ignore this rant. They aren't worth much.
