I can only suggest these pages... Not sure if you've seen them or not!

http://www.larp.com/legioxx/lorica.html

http://www.loricasegmentata.org/

Those are about the two most important online sources for segmentata construction!

Cheers!

YES, please do, I would love to see it, and can anyone explain on how to make the hinges? I have seen several pictures of them and i was wondering how to make the part where both pieces meet, i saw a hinge made by spybeak in the AotM thread, and i was wondering how to make that part where he put the nail in... anyway Thanks for everything guys

Segmentata help

Post by Sasha_Khan »

Try this:

http://www.legio-ix-hispana.org/codex_table.html

This is the Codex for Legio IX Hispana - we've made over 100 Corbridge variant segmentatae, and we've found that building it to a reenactment grade makes for a superior piece of SCA combat armour.

In the Codex you'll find tool and materials lists, patterns, SIZING CHARTS! , and a variety of other helpful bits and pieces of knowledge.

Here's a few good drawings of the strapping and assembly:
Corbridge A - http://www.legionxxiv.org/corbridgaenlrg/
Corbridge B - http://www.legionxxiv.org/corbridgbenlrg/
Newstead - http://www.legionxxiv.org/newsteadenlrg/

I won't vouch for the authenticity of the kit in following photos, (my photos, but not my stuff) but here goes anyway:

A Lorica-ish cuirass collapsed on the ground:

Shoulder opened up and upside down:

Hmmmm... looks like a shoulder, and most of the upper front and back bits:

To keep this moderately on topic definetly check out Sasha's link to the IX Codec Kniggit, the guys have outdone themselves there!

Sasha, not like our posts have crossed since I've started hanging here again. ;p Figgered one of you two reprobates would cross paths with me here soon enough. ;)

You haven't told what type of Lorica Segmentata are you making, and the patterns posted here are for the type Corbridge A and B. So, I think I could post this pattern for the Newstead type also:

And by the way, the drawings of the strapping and assembly which Hew posted, are little old, as the Newstead Loricas shoulder section is connected by riveting in them, though it is now believed that they were also connected with hinges, as you can see from those patterns I just posted
