You are invited to Freemans and mine birthday party!

Post by Sebastian K »

I have crossposted this with OT, as not everybody we are trying to reach with this reads the OT board and I do not have the ability to make a ghost post. Also because there will be some honorable fighting done that day.

Please come to our birthday party!

As many of you know, Freiman, Claudia and I are active in several games. Several of these groups are throwing a combined birthday celebration for us. We love these folks, and with this in mind, we are throwing a birthday party to end all birthdays (or so we hope). We have rented a castle.

There will be several tourneys in a variety of combat reenactment styles. There will be a foam fighting tourney (boffer is the wrong word), a live steel tourney, a "Baton" style tourney (where we fight with rattan styles modified with tape to make them look like swords), and, if we can find somebody very well versed in the safety of the stuff, we will have a medieval/renaissance style fencing tourney. There will be some very cool prizes.

You may have guess from the wording of the above that this is not a sanctioned activity. Not by the SCA, not by an LARP organization (though we do carry full insurance for the event) not by any steel fighting organization, not by anybody. Participation is probably considered a sin by the more fundamentalist religious sects. Nonetheless, I can honestly say that I expect that every attendee will have a rip-roaring good time.

The site fee covers all you can eat (including a large feast on Saturday), all you can drink (beer, mead, and non-alcoholics with wine still pending), sleeping in beds in weather tight rooms with sheets, blankets and pillows provided and all activities. The castle is located in Olpe on A45 between Dortmund and Hanau and is very easily reachable from both Northern and Southern Germany. Pickup from Cologne, Dusseldorf and other Airports can probably be arranged.

There will be music, lots and lots of music. With a thousand elephants (space permitting).

Please pre-reserve early, as space is limited.

I talked to my friend Coco yesterday, and it looks like the Rattan Baton tourney will feature both her and Valconnan, which may mean that the tourney (which is not affiliiated with any organization) will feature both the largest (Valconnan, at slightly more than 2 meters) and the smallest (Coco at a little less than four foot six) fighters in the SCA (which has nothing to do with the function).

My sweetie and I plan on arriving on friday.

There are some folks coming that I want to hear play very, very much.
