New Hat

Post by Lord Ogier »

Ok, here is a new hat that I made for my lady.

It isn't perfect, but it is SCA legal and will serve until I can do the nice one that I promised her for Christmas.

This was a rush job done as a result of her previous helm finally dying. It was a Greyhelm bassinet that is about 12 years old.

I think the shape of the top is weird.
Good fit and finish.
Clean grill great welding, but the opening looks big to me.

Thanks for the pics.

nice craftsmanship,
BUT since you asked....

shouldnt the occularum be up about an inch?
with its current position its gonna need a bit more padding in the top to line it out ...

My suggestion is always count on cutting back into the top of the helm for the occularum.

kinda looks like Ron simmons pre dished halves or a spuntop that got cut..

also you may wanna dish a bit of flare out the back to get rid of some of the blocky look...

well...

how much would you charge for another "Quick Job' :D

or for that matter, how about two weeks access to the tools that made it? :D :D

that looks awesome....

Looks like a cross betwen a Vendal and a barbute, but stilla lot better than a lot I've seen run around the SCA. You can also still see the weld line between the top and the sides.

Greetings all,

Halberds - Openning is a bit on the big side. That is what my lady requested and as you know, the customer is always right(especially when you sleep with them).

Samuel - You are correct, the occularum should be up about an inch. However, this was a quickie job and this was done for what is probably the hardest hitting tourney in our area (Summits Coronet) and my lady wanted extra padding.

Knight's Realm - Once the tourney is done, I will be doing the actual new helm for her and this one will be for sale. As for gaining access to my shop, all you have to do is live somewhere near enough that you could drive here (Medford, Or.) - Private msg sent.

David Blackmane - This was meant to be a pseudo-corinthian/barbute look. My lady is a greeko-roman persona and likes both styles. There are parts of both styles that she doesn't like as well. Again, the customer is always right. :)

Some of you have seen my better attempts that I have posted in the past. I know this is not up to that par, however, this was just a quickie... :)

Now, if I could just get the muscle grieves to plenish out properly, I will be most happy.

Not to pick nits or anything, but "greeko-roman?"! How about Graeco-Roman? What century? For the Legions or for the auxiluries?

Sir Daniel - Will you be fighting in the FP on sunday?

Sir Mord - Yea, what you said. Vestinia is, I think, a first century BC persona. Not sure though.

well crap. my lady got the flu so I'll not be there after all.

From the pics my only concern is the 1"dowel going through the faceplate near the nose. I'm sure it's ok but the pic makes it look like that may be an issue.

Its a clean looking helm.
I agree with some of the other comments
but I would like to add that if the back had a flair to it it would add a
nice touch and possibly add to the compfort.

Well,

The hat passed the armour inspection with no glitches or questions.

So, now I get to make another one in stainless with a few minor changes.
