Some people that have seen this have suggested that I put up piccys of it, sooo:

The photos do a pretty good job of making it look (more) like crap, but oh well. These finger gaunts were made using a slightly modified ThorZ pattern from the archive, and were my very first all-metal armoring project, finished a couple of months ago. Talk about jumping in the deep end. I just thought they looked cool and it incorporated several different techniques, so I figured what the hell, itll be a good experiment. Never mind its about a millenia off my persona. The metal is 16 gauge I think - it was nicked from my school's metal recycling bin so I'm not really sure. :D Tools used were a 25lb HF anvil, a largish chunk of railroad rail, ball peen and other non-specialty hammers, a piece of steel pipe for dishing knuckles, a 4" vise, and some other random crap. I'm poor so I make due with whatever tools I have, and what I can find for cheap.

I've fought with it on two occasions and it worked pretty good, though I havent taken a full-speed direct shot yet. I wore it behind a scutum at a war practice and I didnt feel anything during the shield crashing. One of these days I'll get around to making the right hand...

The other pictures in that folder are of the shield boss I'm currently working on. This is my first exercise in serious dishing, and will include a learning experience on planishing when I go to smooth it out. Notice the highly technical dishing stump I'm using. Right now I'm living in a glorified hotel room on post, so my available equipment is even lower than normal. I'll put up pics of the whole shield when I'm done with it.

Cool...The Thor-Z gaunts are hard to make. I tried a pair and gave up.
That in a nice shield boss and dishing tool you made too.
Thanks for the pics.

Yeah,

It looks good to me.....sometime when I'm feeling really brave I'm going to try making fingered gaunts....but for now I'll limit myself to trying to figure out how to make a set of clamshells. Keep up the good work.
