SCA shield size question.

Ok well I've decided to make myself a shield curving form and likely sell blanks.

So the question is what's the max dimensions for an SCA shield.

I went and had a look at the society policies and it doesn't say anything.

Anyway I'd like to make my form to allow for the largest possible shield since the smaller ones will fit in a larger form.

there's not one. some kingdoms have a limit (24X36 IIRC) on shields in a crown tourney, but for general SCA usage, there is no limit.

Personally, if i were you, i's make it beig enough for scuta, as that's proably the largest shield you'll regularly get a call for. Of course i could eb wrong, and there is booming business for crossbow pavises, but i havent heard of it.

Where are you located? In what area{s} are you thinking of selling? What are the locals using? Rounds? Wankels? Flat Heaters, curved Norman kites? 4' Viking rounds, oval Roman Scutum, those Ansteorran Tower or Trimarian polygons? Coffin lids or stop signs? Sounds like you need to do a tad bit more research. How much depth of curve? 4" displacement? 6" or 8"? My curved heater is 24"x30" with a 5" displacement. My half-round is 24"x24" and is flat. My war heater (which I don't use anymore) is 24"x48", also 5" displacement. My old Egyptian Door is 34"x54" and flat (don't use it either, my unit makes me fight polearm or florentine). So What ARE your (hopefully) customers looking for?

Build it large enough to make a scutum and you should be all set

I built my press 4' tall using 6 forms. The 6 forms are not spaced evenly, but are arranged so that common shield lengths fit in them nicely.

So now that I have a really cool shield press I have dropped my curved heater and switched to using a 20x30 flat heater and 14" center grip round. Now the thing just takes up space.
