Amrours in Ohio?

Post by bexter12 »

Hi All,

I went to my first auction yesterday scoping out an anvil. I talked with a couple of blacksmiths who said they thought they knew of a couple of people who make armour in the Columbus, Ohio area.

Is anyone on the archive in Ohio at all? I'm looking to apprentice with someone and will drive a couple hours if I need to.

There are a couple of people in the Columbus but most, like me are ill equiped and beginners. All the ones I know are through the SCA shire. Unfortunately I have been inactive in SCA and armouring since an injury at Pennsic and I'm moving to Maryland in June about the time I'll be healed up.
A good lead on the archive would be Sir Diolun (sp?) known on the archive as Irish, I know one or more of his squires are fairly accomplished armourers and may be of help.

I live near Canton, OH. As far as Irish's squires, one of them is the guy that taught me about armor. He lives in Canton. I don't know if he will take an apprentice, per se, but I DO know that he is always glad to help someone get started pounding steel.

Hi Chris,

I tried the link you gave me and it wouldn't work. Story of my internet life lately.

I would love to come up and go to one of your meetings. I have babysitters in Columbus, so it's easier for me to travel there.

Ted - YOU LIVE!!! Stop by practice and say hi or something!

Anno - See you Thurday...

Bex - I'ld be happy in introduce you to various Ohio armourers of various skill levels -

2 of them live in Canton, and are both more than willing to teach.

If you've got a spare Thursday night, the Cleftlands Armourer's Guild meets in Berea off of I-71 7pm-10pm. We don't really have a "Master Armourer" - mostly folks working on their own projects with Guild-owned tools - but we have a couple of experienced folks (Master Calum MacDhaibhidh, marshal extrordinaire, for one)

Our host usually makes supper too.

Dilan: I would very much like to meet with the folks you know. Canton is a bit of a hike for me, but I might be able to make it if you have a meeting planned and I know enough in advance.

Pietro: I love Berea! It's about 2.5 hours from here, but not out of the question to be able to go every now and then.

I appreciate all the offers and will contact you folks seperately re: directions and such.

Hope to see all of you at Ted's armour-in. Only 5 weeks to go!
