My new helmet! Picture.

Post by widow montoya »

Here I am at Potrero War this past weekend. There was a photographer doing pictures for a book she is doing. This is me in a helmet that Zweihammer made, and I think that I can safely say that I have never looked sexier or been more an object of desire. :D

I don't have a web space to put it up, or I would link it, but if you want to download it and look, you will see that Zweihammer is a talented talented man.

montoya you've always been a sexy object of desire... the helm just replaces the beauty of your glowing face with the fear of a quick painful death at your hands ;)

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was trying to compliment/flirt/flatter her, perhaps this wasn't clear :?

Thank you! Thank you!

I am just so happy with this helmet that it's unbelievable. The air flow and visibility are actually better than I had in my last helmet (a Norman football with bar grill). The old one would shift oddly at times, while this just works beautifully and I can see everything I need to.

Heh. And Rhys strapped it so that he can wear it too.

Hey Eric!

Unfortunately we won't be at West_anTir this year. The cost of gas, etc. is just a little too much and the drive is pretty darn long for us now. We're bummed about it though.

We also won't be making it to June Crown as we have a prior committment down here. SO We will hopefully be up there for something soon, but right now am just pining and missing all you guys up there.

No Pennsic either.

Nice! Can't wait to see it with an aventail!

Trevor, the curve in the back of that helmet is so deep it's almost a sallet, it wouldn't work with an aventail well.

I especially like the fact that it was in black and white...kind of adds to the ambiance. Very nice, m'lady!

What kind of ambiance? Like watching a black and white film from say the 1930's? LOL.

That observation on Jonah's comment notwithstanding, your helmet is interesting---I like it!. I'd love to see some close-ups of it and some other angles! What are the breathes shaped like and what is the significance?

Cheers,
Tim

Tim,

there are a couple of pictures on it in this thread, from when zweihammer was working on it and had just finished it. This is before it was strapped and fought in. He just does amazing work. The demi-sun is the populus badge of the West Kingdom, so the cut-outs, I believe, are meant to evoke that, as well as to allow for the passage of water tubes.

I don't have any other pics yet. I got this one because someone was taking portrait pics at Potrero War.

Wow...the visor is even more beautiful in close-ups! Also, the shape of the helmet and the visor are really superb!

The only worry I have looking at the visor is how much it may have been weakened by the extensive piercing---any thoughts? Also, how was the effect achieved? Plasma cut? Jeweler's saw? I'm curious...

At any rate, you have one absolutely splendid looking helm. Wow!...did I already say wow? I'll say it again...WOW!!!

Cheers,

Tim,

The visor is 10 gauge, and was plasma cut, shaped, and then cleaned up by hand. The eye holes and piercework below them were done by hand. The heavy gauge of the grill seems to be sturdy enough to me so far. :)

Thanks for the compliments. I am just in love with this helm.

Greetings Jimena!
I am so thrilled to hear you are on the field with your new helm. I hope it performs to your expectations. Have any of your Caidian compatriots attached any significance to the demi sun? How does the Caid marshallete feel about the piercework? You look great.

Hey Erick!

As I said, so far the helmet has performed better than I could have wished. I have gotten a couple of sarcastic commens about crescents (CAIDan populus badge) vs demi-suns, but for the most part, everyone has been too busy drooling and being jealous to say anything. The marshals who inspected me had no questions or concerns about the piercework, they just looked at how thick the visor was. They also gave me a lot of compliments on the look af the helm.

I am soooooo happy with this helm. Oh, I also told all and sundry who made the helm, so, even though I cautioned them that you generally only do commissions for specific events or trade, you may have some other inquiries from people.

Thanks again for the fantastic work you do!

YIS,
Jimena

Normally I don't like the look of that kind of visor (just personal esthetic choice) but I'll make an exception for that one, with the demi-sun breaths.
(Double-checked my spelling there.)

My initial response was rather similar to others. A lot more round than I would expect to see in period examples, and for the period of the helm, a bit more modern/fantasy influence in the piercework.

Knowing that the piercework is heraldry based, I'd temper that opinion quite a bit, and rate it as okay. :-)

Very pretty. 8)

WOW....... You've created quite an echo there m'lady. The piercework would definately distract your opponents as you plough thru' them. Respect to the armourer as well, great job Erick :D
