Byzantine spaulders..for want of a better word

Post by Fearghus Macildubh »

Does anyone have a pattern or how to on making these? They look fairly simple, but I could be wrong. I was planning on making them out of water hardened leather, then decorating them with some copper that I scrounged. I have limited supplies of both, so would like to avoid the learning curve as much as possible.

my suggestion would be to modify one of the patterns for a simple spaulder from the pattern archive.

after that just follow the tutorial that House of Wolf has listed on his website.

either way the MRE box cardboard would be the easiest thing to play with to get the right look and size before you hack into the leather.

No pattern, just took a shoulder cop and some cardboard to moc up the ptruges. Didn't save the cardboard as it was a hack job/ learning experience.

The leather ptruges are done like a spread hand (or indivdually, like fingers), so they lay correctly on the arm.

I did all these as individual fingers (hence all the rivets).
I attached the brass to the leather, then the leather to the cop.
