Ok, enlighten me: What exactly is this tool dip made of?
From the pics i guess its much like 'epoxic tar' or 'soft coal tar' I've seen used to cover sheet metal when its going to be submerged in water. (Water Treatment business)

Is it the same thing?

It's like a vinyl plastic. It comes in a spray can too. It's the stuff your pliers handles are dipped in. Pretty cool stuff.

Coal Tar would have been pretty sticky IMHO. And this leaves a nice smooth finish.
I'll definitively look for it and try out some ideas i have in mind! (muhahaha like some blunt thingy with spiky things sticking out)

I got the hammer today! It's BEAUTIFUL! I cant get over how precise the head is formed. Its profile is gorgeous. It's light as a feather, but it packs a pop. I cant wait till tuesday to try it out. The craftsmanship is impeccable. The head haft and handle are just awesome.

of course, who has it right now, carrying it around the livingroom terrorizing the cat? Yup. Conor. When I went to take it back he sat donw on the floor and bawled! I'm such a sucker!

Wow, that was quick!!

When you try it out in amour, I'd love a pic...
My big questions are, how will it hit and how will it last. I need to know if I will have to add something to the hammer surface to make it hit properly, and if I will have to do more layers of tool dip.
I recommend that you not do alot of excessive hooking with it... I'm not sure this foam, or the adhesive and tool dip would be up to it...

After putzing with it this evening, ( once I got it back from Conor ) I think I'm gonna suggest a bit of tape under the tool dip. I love the tool dip for the outer but Ithink the tape will add life to the weapon and some weight it might need. I tend not to hook with stuff, I like hitting better. But I think a bit of weight would go a long way. The thing is beautiful though. The profile is fantastic, it LOOKS like a weapon. Not some duct tape half assed attempt. Weight is the only thing I forsee being any sort of an issue. My saber weighs more than this, it's gonna be interesting come Tuesday to see how people accept the shots from it. I'll see if I can get Vlad to take some shots of it. He shows up there and is awesome with a camera.

Well, tonight I took the hammer out to the tuesday workout in columbia. I used it against Batu. It moved well, held up fine, but the issue I thought was gonna be a problem, was. It was WAY light. Batu calls EVRYthing and he just didnt feel it. It's a grat design profile wise, I just think there's gotta be a way to increase the weight so it delivers that thump people are used to.
My friend Vlad took some pics of us and when he gets them to me I'll post them here no worries.
In all a beautiful weapon. Just needs to be heavier so the recognition is there. Thanks again for the honor of trying it out.

OK... more wieght. I was thinking that. I will probably add tape, and leather on the striking surfaces to pull it off.

leather on the sides will also add some wieght, you could even cut the leather so it goes down a the shaft some then tape and tool dip it, should hel pit stay on better.

The weapon was admired by everyone at the workout though. They all agreed that such things are good because they add to the realism of what we're trying to do. Everyone agreed that it was a very well made weapon that needed more weight to make it perfect.
