This weekend I finished building what I now call "Archie's little Red Forge" Its firepot is capable of being a foot wide by 10 inches deep. but it can get to be just a tiny 4 inch deep 4 inch across firepot which still heats small bits of metal. Based on "The Forgebeque" a forge of a neo-tribal bladesmith. It's good for stake-making, steak making, heating up pieces for hot raising, bladesmithing, blacksmithing, pattern welding all that good stuff, AND it's on a Red Radio Flyer. pikkies soon!

I a f$%#ing p%$$#d right now. When putting it away after one one of the most enjoyable half hours of this month it sped down the hill bounced off a tree crashed died and burned. It has ruined my day. completely. The first words which came to mind when I encountered my brother were, "Get out of the room, or I will drag your dead body out." I am not at all nice when I am angry. I don't shout, just burn silently. It frightens people.

I have calmed down a little now. I was able to rescue the tuyere, and a bit of the "refractoy" (soil and ash mixed) but it has leaves'n crap in it. The wagon still works, just needed a few whacks with a hammer, and a tire pump-up. I have re-ground my hammer's faces, and the face of my anvil (a sledge hammer on it's side) should be okay now. I'm gonna use a big round barbeque to hold the refractory/firepit etc, and BOLT it to the wagon, and add some brakes or something to the wheels. should come out better and stronger and notter than before. Archie's Little Red Forge shall rise again! (but maybe in a Democratic form? or monarchical). Things seem to be looking up at about a...25 or 30 degree angle, maybe.

My G_d Archie,...that is one of the funniest things I've seen in quite some time. (Funny because it didn't happen to me, and because I "caught a visual"). That is classic. What happens when you put a forge on wheels? It rolls down a hill! I just did a wee little bit for the 'Forge Fire', (the Indiana Blacksmithing Newsletter), on how everything in my shop is on wheels. Except one thing.
the first project i did on my forge was putting wheels i could raise and lower on it so i could move it out of the garage into the driveway to fire it up

I need to put some brakes on it or treads or something. I have a snow day today, so I'll be able to attend to that.

Take it from someone who drive bus and truch for a bit (all the truck work was personal, not professional) get a triangle of plastic or wood, tie/chain it to the forge, and stick one on either side of one of the wheels when you're using it. It will NOT move, so long as the wedge isn't sliding on the ground.
Make the block small enough to get stuck, but not small enough to get rolled over. It works better on pneumatic tires (Radio Flyers have solid rubber, right?) but it should work wonders.
Sandbags work, too. I think I have pictures of that.
