HF Tools

Post by Minotaur »

I have a HF chopsaw and well it stoped working, after it poped a breaker. So I opened it up to see what was wrong. Poked around found that the L1 had come off its brush. I pulled every thing out and soldered it back on (it was crimped on before). Works fine now. This isnt an out of the box problem and more likely to happen over time with vibration. Yes I do have a point and thats this could have happened to a brand name tool also. If you couldnt fix it yourself, it would mostlikely cost more to have it fixed then a new one from HF.

So I cant see the point in paying for a brand name. Harbor Freight tends to get a bad rep when I dont think it should. If you can fix your own stuff why buy brand. If you cant its cheaper to replace then fix. IMHO its best not to tie up a lot of money in a power tool.

As this is the time for shopping just though I would toss this out there.

Agreed,
Nearly all of the tools I have in my shop are from HB, there have been a few fixes that have had to be done... But none have really broke, Though I do admit, when I use the HB MIG welder, I'm quite unimpressed, and theres nothing I can do to fix it! That's just one of those things...

But yes, I do agree that HB tools really aren't that bad, they work as well as you are willing to treat them.

I guess they call them "Horror Fright" for nothing. ;)

Best advice I ever got was: "I am not rich enough to buy cheap".

But I agree that not everybody can afford some of these prices for brand name tools or to wait to have the money.
