clamshell gauntlets-pictures needed

Post by captain_america »

I want to make a pair of clamshell gauntlets and, while I have a pattern, I have no instructions so I need pictures to see how they are put together.
Thanks

Check the pattern archive for Clang's gauntlet patterns. As I recall, there were pics of finished gauntlets there.

Also, check any commercial armorer's website. 90% of them offer some form of mitten or clamshell gauntlet.

Go to your local SCA fighter practice and ask if anyone there has gauntlets. Play with them for a couple of minutes. That will tell you a lot more than the pictures.

That'll get you started. When you have specific questions, feel free to ask here. There are several folks on the board who make gauntlets enough to be able to guide you through any tricky parts, if you are asking specific questions.

This is by no means a slam on you, but there is something you ought to know about the culture of this board. When you are looking for information about armor, the folks here expect you to take the time to do a Google search or crack a book before you ask what something looks like. If you say "I have found several pictures of mitten gauntlets made for SCA use, but I can't find any good pictures of historical ones, other than unclear or tiny pics in such-and-such a book. Anyone help?" then you'll get a lot of immediate answers. Your question really hits a lot of folks as being "I don't want to make an effort to look for this information, please do it for me." I don't know whether that is your position and I am not wanting to slam you. I am just saying that it helps if folks here know you have already looked for the info before you ask someone else to do it for you.

No offense taken, as I understand what you mean. People will go into a store and without even looking around they ask "do you have ____?"
Thanks for the info.
