Well, as long as you don't table it and punch at the same time noone has any need to worry about loosing an eye. Though if you do, I suspect your opponent is going for that big opening before that shield gets anywhere near their grill. Yeah, alot of worry over a statistically highly unlikely event.

Hmm, I'll have to try the tail of one of my two kites on a bar grill. I think it just might fit in there and much more than 3".

""we need 1 1/4" sheild edging to prevent situations like this"

Can we give him a wedgie? "

Wedgies are for Jr. High kids that remind the teacherof the pop quiz.

For suggesting 1 1/4 shields.....

as Thulsa Doom said

"Take him to the tree of Woe,....crucify him"

Be glad i am not in charge......

That reminds me of a really funny story. But Sir Tacius tells it better.

Maeryk,

If you ever need someone to tell such a marshal to screw off, please let me know, and I will be happy to oblige.

See this is why i have the rep for being a jerk with some folks (like the marshallatte ;) )

Had a very very similar experience with a marshal at an early Gulf War and i totally went the hell off on the nitwit.

I beleieve my exact words were"WHAT THE F^(K IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!! ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR GODDAM MIND!!! HAVE YOU EVEN _READ_ THE RULES YOU WHAPPING TARD!!!!"

i was less tactful at 21.

This was the guy that was palm striking people to check chinstraps

that my fave bad marshall story

It' s not the only one though.

Most recent was the guy at Pennsic inspecting that spent 15 minutes hitting on a girl fighter and then promptly (and rudely) closed marshalls point because "we close 10 min before the battle."
Most of us had been standing there for over half an hour.

I was only getting another helm checked so it wasn't that big a deal.

Before i could say something the guy behind me said loudly "Then maybe you should have been inspecting people insead of trying to get laid."

The marshal in charge of the point apologized and inspected those in line and apologized for wanna be loverboy jerks behavior.

The rules do not require shields to be edged there is an OR right after the edging comment that gives an option of 'constucted in a way as to prevent damage to an opponents rattan or the opponent themselves'*.
