June 9-11 is the weekend of the Combined Realms War for the HFS. Lots of Ampgarders go also. Of course, for me I'd rather go to the armor in as CRW never really impressed me much.

How many Amtgarders and HFS'ers are wanting to go to the armor-in? I mean, I'm sure there are a thousand events of various sorts on any given weekend, but unless people speak up, we have no reason to move it to a different weekend.

*bump* so speak up if June 9-11 doesn't work for you!

i'll say of the perhaps 10 amtgarders who may go to crw (including me) i'd probably be the only one to go to the armour in. i'm pretty sure four or five amtgarders will be at the armour in alltogether. as it stands, that week is imediately before rakis and works quite fine as no one is going to schedule anything major on that weekend. amtgard gets a big thumbs up on this date.

I think that any hfs'ers on this board would rather go to the hammer in. That weekend sounds goo to me.

OK, I got hold of a few others down here and there were a few conflicts with the 9-11th. Looking over the posts here and chatting with the regulars who have been to every armour-In, the 16-18th of June will be the best day.

So shall it be written......
.....so shall it be done.

Scribe it in stone and make your plans!

Plan on a bridge battle as well. I'll have my new armour done by then.
All you aged knights, dust off your swords! The field is mine!!! Mu hahahahahahah!

Just bumping it up to keep it fresh!

Any of y'all Dallas area guys coming down? I plan on being up at Steppes warlord. If I can skinny my ass up or stretch my armour out a bit, I'll even fight a bit. :)

I'd like to drive down but haven't got the funding, logistics worked out yet.

Anyone possibly interested in carpooling from Oklahoma City South?

I may not make it after all. My job rearranged everyone's shift and now I work on Saturdays. I have put in for vacation, but too many people are ahead of me. We will see however.

I'm looking into going. A lot depends for me on house issues...I may not make it simply because I'm house shopping and may be moving in or organizaing at that time, unfortunately. I'll see you at warlord to be certain! :)

I might be able to make this one if I can hop a ride with someone from the DFW metroplex. I'd like to be back up here Saturday night (even if late) though so don't know if anyone else is planning this. Leave out of here Friday afternoon sometime? Anyone up here need someone to sleep in their passenger seat for the drive? I can bring a few fun toys to show or help with a demo on something or another. Patrick

I have several tents as well as indoor floor and couch space.

It hasn't got over 100*F yet this year and uncle Dave's burcitis hasn't been acting up, so I think it's going to be a rather cool June! Don't be scared of the heat! My shop should have an additional 12' x 25' front shaded area by the armour-in.

Patrick, that would be great if you could come down and let us pick your brain!

It'd be nice if we had this 60's to 80's weather another couple months!

I have two hind quarters of venison for BBQ and might get a small hog as well. Depends on how many plan on coming.

It's in Bryan, Texas, which is a bit of a drive from Austin. I have a van, and I'm planning on driving out from Austin if anyone would like to carpool.

Krag, meat for all would be awesome. :) What's your fridge space going to be like? Do we need to bring our own ice chests for drinks and such?

It is best to bring your ice chest for food and drinks I think.

Fridge space is limited, but we just bought a chest freezer...so bring all the popcicles you want! :)

Stone keep, the weekend of the 16th, not the 11th. Some of the Houston guys were getting manicures on the 11th so it got moved back a week. :P

Krag,
I may be able to head down your way, depending on work. I've got a conical spun dome I need to turn into a slatted back SCA helmet to achieve the cone with drape Eastern European feel. What supplies would I need to bring?

Stonekeep,
I have lots of indoor crashspace nobody has laid claim to. Aside from that, we have all the usual hotels/motels. I'll get some contact info.

Michael,
a small box of #4 machine screws, 3/8"...or so ....long and matching nuts. About 1 square foot of 14/12 Ga steel. I *plan* on hitting the scrap yard and picking up some assorted used steel sheet, but it's best to have your own just in case. We have an awsome scrap yard if people want to go scrounge for sheet metal or anvil shaped objects on Friday. You'll also need rivets. My rivet supplies are limited and I don't have enough to sell. If people want to, they can get together and get a couple boxes and divide them up at the armour-in. www.rjleahy.com I'll be picking up about 200' of 1/4" rod for grillwork, so I'll have some of that to sell. It used to be $0.07/ft. I don't know what prices are these days.

Krag,

I talked to my parents about coming down and they said that they'll think about it. Right now I have to get my Math grade to a "B" and my English grade to an "A". Once those are up they will make their decision. Another reason that I might not be able to come is that I would have just gotten my license, and my parents dont really trust me in a car.

Hope I can come (I'll PM you with the answer)

Given the combination of June and Texas, I would like to sleep indoors.. but I'll bring my tent in case allergies contrive to keep me out of the house.

Krag wrote:We have an awsome scrap yard if people want to go scrounge for sheet metal or anvil shaped objects on Friday.

Woot! Scrounging!

This reminds me to ask a question, Krag - what of your shop tools are you letting people use? I'd consider the trip an incredible learning experience even if all I do is watch people. However, if you're basically opening your shop, and if I can scrounge some steel at the yard, I'd love to try to make a pair of simple spaulders or something. I took a coppersmithing class a year and some ago, and we did some sinking and raising, so I'm not a total stranger to moving metal.

Whatever my 6 yr old hasn't buried in the shop floor is available. You do need your own drill bits, sand paper and other consumables.

I have about four machines that require about 5-10 minutes of "training" before I just turn someone loose on them. More a case of the worker endangering the machine.

I'll update the website for this armour-in (I think it still reflects last year's) this weekend.

I've manicured the creek this year so it's begging for a bridge battle/creek battle! With the frequent rains, we'll even have grass this year!....along with humidity and mosquitoes. :)

We have an outside dog and a semi-inside cat. Depending on your sensitivity, it may or may not bother you. If you have dust allergies, well, you're screwed. We have dust, and plenty of it! Lots of pollinating crap around here as well.

No problem.....bring your dad with you! Get him hooked and you'll have a neverending supply of tools! :D

Use some cheesy guilt line like "Dad, I wish we could spend more time together. I don't want us to grow apart." or equally as cheesy....."Dad, you gotta check this stuff out. I bet you could make some amazing stuff as well. You ought to come with me! We haven't done any father-son things in a long time, and I miss it."

Kat- sorry I missed your question earlier. No, I don't smoke unless I'm literally on fire. Fortunately for me that doesn't happen very often.

I'll be having an open armour shop this Thursday night (May 11th) in south west Austin. It would be nice to get to know more folks before the big armour in, and get folks moving in the right direction so they can make the most of the lush gathering of skilled armourers at Krag's. Anyone who's interested is welcome to come- just send me a mail (it's in my profile) for directions.
