Need leather!

Post by TerminusEst »

I want to make a pair of leather vambraces, but I have no idea where to find the leather for it. I got some leather from Michael's (a craft store) but it's in small quantities and I don't think it's vegetable tanned. Any suggestions of where I can find some? If anyone here lives in Pittsburgh, could you point out a specific place?

I think Brettun's is out of the heavy veg-tan scrap right now, but he does have some full hides of 6 oz. veg-tan but it is probably to light for vambraces. I use a place out of Memphis, TN. for most of my veg-tan stuff, the name of it is CLPW Leather. They have are running a sale on their single shoulders in various weights right now. Tandy might be a good choice for a one stop shop kind of place. Here are their websites.

Terminus, what size and application do you need the vambrace for? I have the unbuckled pieces for vambraces I made Raibeart a while ago, the first set did not fit so I had him send them back so I could make a second pair.

The leather is 12 oz vegetable tanned (thick stuff) and allready cut to shape, it only needs to be strapped. Let me know if interrested, I am looking for a buyer.

Cheers

Thanks Warclub_33 for the link to CLPW leather.

Their deal on shoulders is sweet. $37 for a single shoulder regardless of thickness (I chose the 10-13 oz). Also picked up a moccasin kit for my little girl ($6.50!!), and some remnant laces and straps, not to mention buckles and rivets.

Shipping for all this was only $7 (from Tenessee to Louisiana).

Like I told the lady in Tandy leather last week. You'd think that with all the hamburgers we eat, leather wouldn't cost so freakn much.

Glad I could help Skillet, I am only an hour south of Memphis, so I get to run up anytime I need something, which makes it really nice.

FOr SCA use I personally don't use leather thiner than 10-12 oz. I like my appendeges too much. Just like I won't use anything but steel for hands or joints. It's thicker, but it protects more.

contact me, I have some leather that you can get. And if you would like I can help you make the patterns. I have other leatherworking supplies which you may need.

I am Baron Langdon who runs the armour workshops no Fridays in Pittsburgh. I will be doing it this Friday and probably next, but it is a week by week schedule. If you have the Althing, or are in touch with anyone in the Barony they can give you my phone number as well.
