Paging Beathan - Barbute....SCA legal?

Post by Paradox22 »

http://armourandcastings.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=78&osCsid=ead4d83559b0eda06d3263f170e61264

Anyone know if this barbute is sca legal? are the openings the correct size, or would they need to be bared? I emailed them w/ no response...

As long as the eye slots are not bigger then 1" wide and the Helm is made with atleast 16ga (.0625") steel it would be sca legal

I would say THAT barbute is NOT SCA legal. The gap at the bottom of the "T" looks to be to wide.

HOWEVER. Beathan does make SCA legal helms. You should email him and see if he can work up a SCA legal one for you.

FYI for this type of helm I would go with no lighter gauge metal than 14ga. There is ALOT of dishing involved with that helm. Using 16ga will make it to thin.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

I'm sure that the pattern could be modified to ensure that all of the slots are <1".

I like the look of that helm. I almost bought one a while ago, but I have the same questions you do about it. Let us know what Beathan says.

Do watch out for 16 guage - My old barbute was 16 I beleive, and it dented something awful. I still have it in the basement, it looks like an old war trophy.
