LARP armour

Post by Ahriman »

We were invited to a LARP event about half a year ago, and we thought that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make some fantasy armour for ourselves, especially as there are some guys with money but without knowledge about hungarian armourers... well, 6 months would've been enough to finish everything we planned, but 1: we had other jobs as well and 2: we started making patterns only 2 months ago... So now we have all of the patterns and only a few pieces finished. :x I thought that I'll show what we have by now.

Everything is from 1.5mm steel, except the back strips and the shoulders of the gorget. The breastplate and the faulds have sliding rivets on the sides and leather in the center. The back is made only with leathers. I know that it would be better if it would overlap the other direction, but we thought that it looks good. The gorget'll be modified, it'll become a mutant... it'll be a bevor with shoulders (those will be replaced to better fitting ones made from 1.5mm, but we had to hurry)... :D The greaves and the vambraces will have full leather under them instead of strips. It'll have pauldrons attached to the gorget/bevor with straps and buckles, cuisses with poleyns permanently attached to the faulds, back faulds, scale sabatons and a sallet-like helmet.

We took the pictures at the event with the usual PoS camera, we'll try to make better photos soon. Umm, we're green because we were orcs... :D

The event was... not bad. I've learned a few things. I broke a guy's hand with my padded sword - with 2cm of padding. :-/ I can dodge arrows. :) I can't dodge "mages" who use spells from every class. :x I can take out most of the guys out there in duels, IF I'M NOT TIRED. I can't take out 6 pikemen even when I'm fresh. :D Trying to sleep in the open when it's 4-5°C and it's raining without anything over my head is not the best thing on earth.

Opinions about the armours are more than welcome.

Heh, it's me... tired, as well. VERY tired. We were raiding at night. ALL night. But at least my cuirass fits better. (my friend didn't let me help with drilling/assembling his)

Well, that looks really good, very orcish (LotR style, in essence). Now, what I'd like to know is, how did you get the metal that nice black color? Oil? Otherwise, I wish I had this kind of stuff.

It's linseed oil as usual... we wasted too many time because we don't have an oven to put these in... we had in the past, but my shop moved. And it rubs off with time, but someone said that almost everything rubs off after a time... is it true?

BTW, I forgot to mention that these are very, very flexible... :D
