Orders...and waiting

Post by Krag »

A few people here have outstanding orders with me. A few things have happened here on campus that have now involved the state and federal agencies. As one of the safety officers, I've been a bit pre-occupied the last two weeks and will be through next week.

Sorry for the delay and any missed emails.

You know, when the guy on the list who is known to have extensive experience and contact with nuclear materials uses phrases like "safety" & "state and federal agencies" my stomach gets a bit queasy.

Nothing for the public to be concerned about, although I'm sure the local papers will blow it out of proportion! The press release goes out tomorrow or Friday. I can discuss the details of it openly then if you're really curious.

The other incident was a student that had a laser eye injury with a variety of contributing factors with regards to procedures...or lack there of.

and I am in the same town even....

Seriously, I am not concerned. I know how alarmist the media can be. As long as Krag doesn't drop a subtle hint that I might consider moving, I'm not worried about it.

That reminds me of the laboratory that I did my thesis research at - we had a HIGH power laser for performing a precision mesurement of particle beam energy. The caution sign on the interlock door was:

Don't look into Laser beam with remaining eye. Image

Of course in todays ES&H environment, that sort of warning sign would not be viewed as being appropriate.
