Armor Order

Post by bandit86 »

Has any one ordered from Marek&jisba. If so where are they and are the helmets as good as they look?

Yes.

What use do you intend to put them to? They would only pass for "costume armour" for SCA use, and they aren't interested in doing heavily modified from the original piece sorts of things. They do custom work however - Petr had made us a copy of an 'archers sallet' in the MET reserve collection, so they will do custom work. English is not their first, or second language however.

Wolfe Argent uses them for copying 'munition' grade, to middleing grade 15th century armour (for copies of high-end originals we use Jeff Hedgecock, Mac, and the usual suspects). To date we have ordered or have on order a half dozen helmets, a pair of gauntlets, a fussknechtbrust, and several pairs of arms. Some customers have had a bit of a problem with helmets being undersized a tudge (will fit on head, but very snug - only one would not fit at all to my knowledge - not in W.A.), and our fussknechtbrust needed spreading a hair, but the quality of work was excellent, and the finish more akin to what comes out of higher grade workshops. I have a problem with some of their helmet shapes, but there has been steady improvement with new pieces - all of our helmets were well shaped (we didn't order any problem pieces).

I personaly like their work, they are very good business people, and we have had little trouble (other than the language barrier) so far, but there has been some misunderstandings in some of our communications - not due to lack of good will or intent on either part, but simply the language barrier. Also, the monetary aspect of things can be difficult, having to do wire transfers, and fluctuations in currency affecting prices.

Bear in mind if anything does go wrong, the customer would have very little recourse. Their waiting list is lengthier than it used to be, due to most of the 15th century US groups giving them business.

I hope this helps.

My first open faced sallet fit great although I would have prefered that the rear lame was longer (or 2 lames). The work was excellent.

My archer's sallet was a little tight and I did have to have Adam at WMA tweek the fit a little (outwards). However, admittedly (intended or otherwise) by it being tight, it will be easier to shoot with.

I'm curious to see how my arms turn out.
