Tabbard design .... not really armour but anyway

Post by Torum »

So i am attempting to make a new tabbard, it will be a full length horsemand tabbard, i have attatched a blank outline ... and i am trying to work out how to intergrate my device.... my device has a pall (inverted Y) and i dont really want to have the object in the lower third to be centred on my crotch... but i think it may look silly with the device based up high... any ideas?? feel free to edit the attatched pic and pop it back up with ideas.... the more historiucal the better but i am flexible....

Typically, on a surcoat, the chest is the display area. Anything like a pale, or a pall, however, would be continued for the length of the garment. Your option is to have an actual shield shaped display on the chest, with the surcoat a contrasting color or something.

You will have to put a vertical split in the neckline or you will never get it over your head. Also, don't try to shape the arms, and I believe it will work out better for this design. Think more like a T. Just my two cents that are worth considerable less since its my wife that sews and not me...

If you'll go and look at this thread, http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=61336 you can see how I've done mine. I'm still working on the actuall device but you see where the shield is placed.

This is designed like Cameron mentioned, it has a split in the neckline and is basically just a t-tunic.
