I bought 124 lbs of steal, enough for a suit or two ;p also about 25 lbs of that is a nice chunk of rail road with the end cut like a anvil. I cant be live i found something like that laying in a scarp pile. O and the metal i bought is 14g steel, some of the sheets are stainless (no rust, yet) and the rest are some kind of steel for it has some rust on the edges. I fell i got a good deal on this, 5 15'' by 4' sheets plus a make shift anvil for the low low price of 31 dollars.

Wow, sounds like you did get a good deal. I'm paying about $27 for a 4x8 sheet of 16ga hot rolled.

Nice going on your find. I recently got a 3' section of RR steel for free from my brother in law, and I've found a place to buy sheet metal 14,16 and 18ga in 3' x 4' sheets for $6.00 a piece.

Where does one find pieces of railroad? I have been keeping my eyes open for about a year now and have never found one. The only ones i see are still spiked down to the tracks, and i have a feeling the railroad company would be a little perturbed if i took it Image

Joe, talk to the public works department of a city that has a railyard - they might let you poke through their scrap piles from rail repairs and such.
