hello folks me again here are a few progress pics of the fourth helm i am working on.
just got to the dry fitting stage still got some tweaking to do.
it started as a sinric pattern but i found that it had lots of parts that dont seem to gell too well like the visor too many parts,so i have made new patterns for it visor now two bits instead of four,bottom back bit one piece instead of two.
got to start sanding now and get the lames to fit right.hope it doesn't look too bad. as always all comments welcome still learning

It looks beautifully executed but also very narrow if seen frontally.
Is it going to be fitting a narrow skull?
My skull is pretty large so I noticed that I couldn't use such pattern if I wished tu make this beautiful helm for myself.
My first project is a Von Prankh and I stil have to close it since it appears too narrow after having been cut and shaped from patterns downloaded from the armourarchive (the russian ones I modified widely but not enough to fit my very round and big skull).
What method did you use to make the round parts, dishing or raising from outside on a ball stake?
hello bruno its all done on my dishing block .
and i too have a large head so it may look narrow but it does fit me.
all the helms i have made so far are just for me to learn from so they dont have a specific customer in mind.
but after going to a large medievel fair last weekend it looks like i have my first comission a sallet so i will make a test one first to iron out any probs.

I realized that the impression of narrowness is due to the perspective distortion introduced by a wide angle lens.
Thanks for the info, tomorrow I will be raising a bit my VP lower front plate to gain a compund surface where its has to.
My dishing of the VP plates just caused an eccessive curling inward, btw, possibly due to the sheet metal characteristics.
