Ecranche (Jousting Targe/shield) AUCTION

Post by Mike Garrett (Orc) »

Okay - what we have here is a (used) leather-backed steel ecranche. Not sure if I want to auction, sell or trade it as I've no idea what the going rate would be. It's made by a professional armourer from what I guess to be mild steel (might be a different steel, but we'll stick with mild for the moment, lol) which would appear to be 16guage (about 1.5 to 1.6 mm) with a leather backing which is a little thicker. I assume that this is to protect ones harness from damage /rubbing/scratching from the ecranche. At some point, as you can see, the straps have been cut off, although the remains of them and the rivets etc are still there. Easily sorted out and replaced though. The only damage that I can see is a bit of rub on parts of the leather and the paint work has been mullahed. Seeing as how you'd probably want to strip and repaint I don't see this as a problem. Very nice form to this not often seen beasty. Measures approx 10.5 inches at the widest point, about 12 inches tall (without the curve) and approx 14 inches along the curve at the longest point.Shipping, if anyone does want to make some kind of offer or start bidding would be £5 in the UK, £7 to Europe and £12 to the US/Canada. Rest of the World I can find out. Those prices are in British pounds by the way ( so approx 10 Euros and $20US I guess)

Oh so very tempting...

That is one sweet little bit O gear. I already have one, but it is super heavy and not nearly as cool looking.

Cheers!

Thanks for the bid.

When new straps are attached there should be provision for a strap with a buckle that goes under the spaulder and buckles onto the shoulder strap of the back & breast (the ecranche lies on top of course) and then another strap that straps around your upper arm. I'll try and get pictures at some point.

Pics here give some idea. It can be a fairly custom thing, depending on your harness, preference and size of ecranche - the one in these pics is pretty large!

It is - made and used by Will. He gave it to someone else, who didn't need it. I acquired it, but since I don't joust, due to riding a horse slightly less well than another horse would, I decided to offer it up, in order to raise funds for something shiny that I will use!
