Aluminum fabrication question

Post by Sir Thorfinn »

I heard once that there is a chart or specs that detail out by aluminum type and harness how large a radius you need to put a 90 degree bend in it. Can anyone give me a link?

What I mean is (and this is probably wrong), a chart that will show you need to use 2" of metal when bending 6061 T-6 to do a 90 degree bend without it cracking...

Does this make sense?

 Whoa.... and I always just used the edge of the anvil that looked smooth enough... ;o) with a leather mallet.
If you are going to do it by hand (or Hammer) that is one of the "secrets" as far as I'm concerned.. never metal on metal on metal.. (IE the oreo cookie effect. either a metal form (or tool), the aluminum, with a leatheror wood mallet (lead wieghted are the best). or a metal hammer striking the aluminum against a wooden form (Block, stump, ETC).
However if you are talking a bead roller or other mechanical device (Especially one that does the entire amount of metal to be moved in one process) that type of chart is INVALUABLE :!:
