More specifically does anyone ever get near the town of Nancy? Here is why I ant to know. Laking refers to "a helmet of the Wallace type" in the "Museum of Nancy" in his chapter on bascinets. Anyone ever seen this? Any clue which museum this refers to? Any possibility of a photo of it?
I'd appreciate any thoughts or help.
Anyone live in or visit France regularly?

I never made it to Nancy, but reading the descriptions of the different museums in town I would guess that yo are most likely to find it at the Iron Museum. I've pasted in their contact info below. (Let me know if you need help writing a letter or calling them.) My second guess would be the Fine Arts Museum. Iive also pasted their contact info - including an email address!
Good luck!
