What is the name for the style of hat worn by Robin Hood and where can I procure one?

Thanks!

It's more or less just a thimble shaped felt hat with the brim turned up, like this one HE sells:

Of course, the shape of the crown can vary, as well as the angle and width of the brim. The hat can be worn point forward or point backward.

I know of no definitive name for this hat.

Cheers,

I love those hats. this summer I'm gonna felt one from wool (from our sheep 8) ).

About felt (hats) it can be stretched and formed. so with a hat like that you can corm differnt shapes, differnt brims- there are a lot of possibilities that you can do with a hat like that.

I picked one up at Pennsic last summer - my first thought was, "You moron, a black WOOL hat in the middle of summer..." But I was surprised by how comfy it was. Made a great sun shade, too.

Since we're kind of on the subject of the felt hats...how would one go about stretching one of these to fit we of the fatter head group?

Read the description on HE's website. Bottom tells you what to do.

I can get you some more info on felt (hats) later, as I know someone who makes felt (hats) by forming them on a mold and such.

That's definitely a site to bookmark if you've picked up one of those big black hat blanks from sutler-type dealers that cover everything from SCA wars to CivWar reenactment battles, which may be used in the creation of any headgear so long as it be of black felt -- you block it, you trim it, as required. And it does mean working on the size of the hat blank; they come roughly sized, so start by trying them on for size.
