Just wondering.... a 14th C Arming Guide?

Well, as we all know there is no shortage of knowledge here in the AA on the 14th century. And yet when a newbie shows up.... he either hunts around till he loses interest/ gets lucky enough to find what hes looking for or do like I did, and but that can cause a lot of ruckus. And hopefully haven't annoyed anyone....... yet :twisted:

So why not take a book out of Effingham's book, and put to gether a wealth of info on the 14th, and centralize it? Much like he did for the samurai. With the knowledge here, it may not be the be all end all of sites on the 14th, but i believe a good amount of stuff could be crammed into one place to help the newbs...

Any thoughts/comments? Or is this more delusional rambling on my part?

hell, a newbies' primmer would be great for the 14th or any other century. It would go a long ways toward getting someone started.

I had gotten that pamphlet from revival. I have to say that it is truly ment for a begginer IMO. I didn't learn much from it but it is a wonderful reference to show people a glimpse of what the 14th century armour is all about. the pictures (black and white) were pretty fuzzy though. I think you'd be better off with AAOMK. it has an excellent chapter on the 14th cent.

now when you say "arming guide" I start to think about putting armour on or as some call it "arming". heres a good article on it.

Whoops, I meant it more as a primer, not specifically about putting on armour. Wrong choice of words. I haven't checked out the revival one yet.

So you are looking for book/article/pamphlet covering the whole of the 14th century armour? if so, I'll look into it for you and see what I can find.

I jst thought it would be cool, that way the next time someone says "hey I'm new and i wanna do 14th century" we ca just direct them to the site and get them started

I believe it was Christian Flechter's work... before he quit armouring to become a hilter & scabard maker full time.

Y'know, them-thar For Dummies books should likely start with a timeline -- covering armor components and helmet types, men's and women's garments (less tracing their fashions year by year and decade by decade than giving beginning and end dates for cotehardies, e.g.), hats and headdresses for the centuries 10 through 16, to give the eponymous Dummies the long-term framework, before settling down to work on a particular century, decade by decade or so.
