review: Zweihammer gauntlet kit

I just fought in my new gauntlets for the first time - they are great.
The service was very good, double checking that I was aware that they were a kit before allowing me to part with my money, and being patient when I had difficulty with Paypal.
The kit took me about 10 hours to complete including padding and strapping. They would not have taken so long but I wanted to get them right, and there's a difference when you foul up your own pattern - you can just cut a new piece; also I decided to do a wired roll on the cuff so that took longer than it would otherwise. As advertised, I was able to complete them with minimal tools: a dishing stump, a solid edge to work the rolls, and a ball-pein hammer, plus a drill for the single constrution hole that is left to your preference (the thumb articulation point) and for the strapping points.
The instructions (from Zweihammer's website) are clear with plenty of photos.
I highly recommend these gauntlets and Zweihammer to anyone with even minimal armouring skill - the right product, reasonably priced and, as a weekend fighting pole-weapon proves, very protective.

I have become very much a fan of Zweihammer kits. I have made the gauntlet kit and found it to be excellent with some of the best directions I have found for any kit. Tool wise this kit needed no more than a stump dish, hammers and a railroad spike in a good bench vise.

The V6 helm is also a fine helm for very little cash. It also has lots of possibilities for additional mods. I have made one as designed and I am in the process of making a second with some custom castings and a mail drape.

My newest set is the Topf. helm kit. I have had so much fun with the other projects I ordering two right off the bat. I have just started the first kit. Plan on finishing after Gulf Wars.

Zweihammer's service is top notch and I suspect he is making very little profit on these kits. I am using these kits to get good helms for newbies. I very much appreciate having the option. Great gear for less than a spun dome!
