WMA Helm Review Take 2

Post by William Freskyn Murray »

My beautiful lady fiance purchased me a helm from Adam Berry at White Mountain Armory for Christmas, and I've posted previously ranting about how impressed I was when I got it. Well now the holidays are over and we have an indoor site again so I finally got to fight in it, and what can I say........

GOD I LOVE THIS HELM!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam, I know you frequent this board and I can't thank you enough or say enough about the workmenship you put into this piece of art that I'm actually privilaging people to hit with a stick. I have to admit that with the chainmail attached the way it is, and the leather between the helm bowl and the slats I was a little nervous about rattle when I got hit but this helm is absolutely dead with sound. I had our Baron crank me HARD in the side of the head and the helm made a crisp "thunk" and that was it. No ring, no rattles, absolutely giddy with joy.

On a personal note I need to change the way I did the chin strap but hat was my being lazy not anything Adam did. I also need to get used to having a limited field of view, six years in the SCA always in a bar grill of one type or another. Adam, you're my new helmet GOD for this year.

I have put up pictures of the helm and scanned in the Osprey picture (from Osprey Publishings "The Normans) done by Angus McBride that the helm was based on. They can be seen at:

I'm going to post seperately how I made my helm liner so if you see the pictures of that in my folder check out my other post if you're interested in how I did it.

Enjoy the photos - and if you need a helm GET IT FROM ADAM.

Will
