At the behest of Their Most August Majesties, Palymar and Aislinn, the Barony of Cleftlands is hosting a Tournament of Chivalry on Feb. in Cleveland, OH.

The format of the day will include:
Round 1 - A single elimination unbelted tournament, starting at approximately 11am.
Round 2 - Three fields of martial excellence- a field for training (multiples fighters are invited to ask a member of the chivalry for instruction, or one-on-one); a field for general practice combat (one-on-one), a field for Crown-tournament level fights.
Round 3 - A 45 minute session of classes. Classes at this point include: fighting from your knees (Sir William of Fairhaven), polearm techniques (HRM Palymar); the art of two-sword (Sir Theodric); advanced footwork (Duke Brannos); fighting pain-free (Duke Alen); the defense of A-frame sword and shield (Count Alaric); the art of feints (Duke Eliahu); fighting against left-handed opponents (Sir Dilan); techniques for using a round shield (HRH Lutr); adjusting your prowess to the fight (Sir Ullr).
Round 4 - The chivalry will hold the field for general combat. To assist the combatants, the chivalry will be organized according to their region of residence.

Prepare your harness and practice your skill at arms, for the chivalry will have just returned from their annual weekend gathering.

Hopefully my doctor tells me tomorrow that I can fight (friggin' tennis elbow in my swordarm). I've been looking forward to this.

Ditto on the crash space, unfortunately the Dr. and my PT have told me no fighting until sometime around June

I know exactly how you feel. I've been out since shortly after Pennsic. Three times I've been to different doctors, each telling me that I "shouldn't" play contact sports and get a better opinion before attempting them.

Food is going to to be good. Lunch Tavern is being done by the lovely Lady Sarra Bosard and will consist of:

Mediterranean Chicken and Vegetable Pita Sandwiches, Greek Chicken Soup with Lemon, Fresh Fruit, Fresh Baked White Chocolate Biscotti, Choice of Beverage

As for Feast, this is being done by Lord Edward FitzRanulf and Baroness Madelaine Bouvier and will consist of:

Bread, Fresh Cheese, Pickles (Onions, Carrots, Eggs, Herring)
Stewed Chicken on Sops with Sauce
Carrots, Turnips, and Onions boiled in Chicken Stock
Cold Salad dressed with Oil, Vinegar, and Salt
Cold Rabbit Pie
Lentils browned in Bacon with Onions and cooked in Rabbit Stock
Boiled Kale dressed with Butter and Vinegar
Cold Sliced Boiled Beef with Mustard
Savory Oat Pottage
Spinach Pie
Apple Pie made with Raisins and served with Egg Custard Sauce
Comfits
Mulled Cider

There are also classes many of the heavy classes do not need to involve gear and I -highly- recommend Duke Alen and Dr. Dave's class on how to not injure your shoulder. Duke Alen demonstrates the sword blows, Dr. Dave explains what's happening with your ligaments and tissues and then His Grace shows slight modifications to these very popular shots that will save your shoulder. Seriously, you all need to take this class.

Also there are a number of non-fighting classes including some fascinating costuming classes, a class on bookbinding, drumming, card weaving and more.

And there will be merchants and so long as the sky's clear archery (Archers bundle up, it's cold outside!)

Come visit our hall and drive away the cold of winter with good fellowship and deeds of arms!

One small note, due to the expected high turn out of fighters, both rapier and heavy, we are asking day camps be kept to a minimum.

Always know that your words and advice as a trainer are sought out along with coaching on 'the look' to go with the mindset. Some of the best advice I ever was given as a competitive marksman pistol shooter came from coaches who hadn't competed for decades ... but moments with them improved my 'game' ten fold. ...

Not able to be on the field means nothing towards improving the fight ...

I will be crawling out of my warm bed in the early morning hours leaving a beautiful wife and gorgeous two year old girl behind to drive southward to my waiting Knight and Squire brothers where we shall gather in convoy and companionship for the travels across the heart of the Midrealm to the Cleftlands and seek out the Chivalry of the Midrealm, the Royals of both Aethelmearc and Ealdomere and Chivalry from other lands (Atlantia and Meridies along with others so I'm told) to cross blades in learning and spend time in joyous companionship ...

This is what makes the long winters warm and keep the fire of our passions alight ... mother of nature is brewing a storm to walk across the lands we travel ... if our paths cross enroute I'm sure we'll assist one another but once we've gathered ... then it make it all well worth it.

Thanks Iain, two more visits down, two more nothing conclusive responses. Got more appointments next week, with the snow we had here we're going to go to Val Day instead and hope that I get an OK next week.

I had a great time too, though I don't think I managed to meet you; I was too busy making sure that at least one AEthelmearc knight was on the field at all times, and got myself pretty exhausted by the end of it - I wouldn't be surprised if I had dozens of sets throughout the course of the day, and never fought the same person twice.

Yes, that was a great event. I especially liked the chivalry sponsoring virtues. It was a nice touch that added something extra to the day.

This event was a serious blast. I have never seen people learn so quickly in my life. It was great meeting Dante/Matt and Edmund/Chris- both excellent gentlemen. I'll start another thread about what happened....

I got the chance to go to this event and it was well worth the complete lack of sleep the night before( to fix broken armour) and the 5 1/2 hour drive. Excellent classes and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to fight so many knights and get to pick their brains about what was or wasn't working for me.

This was my second ToC since I moved to the Middle Kingdom. They are always well worth any hardship to attend.

Many thanks to the chivalry who attended and gave of themselves holding the field for such long times and instructing!

The fighting was awesome, the classes offered were also well worth attending, and I saw many people having a blast - truly a good day!
