Lorica Musculata

Post by Charles Alexander »

I have an interest in greco-roman armor styles. A simple breastplate and backplate is appealing.

Similar to AB Hammer's work here - http://www.silverroseleatherworks.com/roman.htm

But perhaps without the muscle ridges like the Gladiator armor(attached).

I'd like something like this, but in metal, simple, little or no muscle ridges nor fancy design. Do any armorers currently offer or would be interested in doing something like this?

In addition, does anybody have any firsthand experience with this kind of armor? I can imagine the big hindrance is flexibility. Abdomen flexibility especially. But it would still look sweet.

We do a musculata. There is a bit of hinderance with mobility over other styles. We make a design that gives the most mobility for the style.

If you aren't stuck on the steel I would suggest one of Magnus' leather ones. I just wrote a review 2 days ago.

More flex and mobility.

Thanks for the link. I saw his musculata posted here, but I did not know his site.

Sir Andreas, I'd be interested in seeing what you offer. Do you have a picture of your musculata style breastplates? I didn't see one specifically on your website's gallery.

They are under the heading "breastplates" There is a good picture of one in that category.

Cheers!
