I haven't seen many examples of flat riveted mail in zinc, just blackened steel. I like black, just not the oil that is necessary to keep it rust protected.

I would avoid galvanized since it turns an off white after it has had a lot of contact with water (like in the rain or your sweat). Stainless steel is the way to go if you don't want oily maille. Von Sussen and Eis Falke both carry stainless AFAIK.
His flat links can be turned a gun-metal grey with 15 or 20 min. soaking in lemon juice. This method still leaves on some zinc but, looks better & won,t rust. The riveted flat ring patch I posted in discussion was done that way. Whole sale armor does have stainless links but , only in roud wire at the moment and , they are a bit cheaper to buy than elsewhere. Ant.
