WTB: 3" Diameter rattan log

Post by Cian of Storvik »

I'm looking to aquire a 3" diameter piece of rattan, 36" in length. It doesn't need to be 3" it's entire length, but atleast for the first 12".
If anyone has such an item, please let me know. I'm willing to pay handsomly for this "unobtainium".

I had a 3" thick rattan sword once and carved it down to minimum width. At a Sea Raids many moons ago, it generated quite a few killing blows to the thighs. Turns out that people do not like getting hit with a log on bare legs...

Alas, it was stolen a Pennsic later and I have not seen that size rattan since.

Let me whip this out and see how big around my log is I will get back to you once I get the wife to take hold of it so I can wrestle the tape around it and see I do happen to have a nice big thick log and it looks so much bigger when she holds it you know little potatoes make the steak look bigger

Actually, I'm looking at making one of these......and I am trying to over compensate for something.
People that are used to stabbing with a dagger, yearn for the ability to parry with a sword. (or so my shrink tells me...but he's also in the SCA).

Is three inch going to be big enough it looks like you have to take a nice size hunk out of it to get the shape

Technically, that is a 2.5" diameter piece of rattan as diagram.

So sad no one has a piece of rattan that big...I've got this $50 just burning a hole in my pocket.

I may know someone who has something that size. I didn't want to say anything until I had a better idea of what you were going to use it for, as it is more oval than round. I believe it is at least 2.5" or so, possibly thicker. I should also be getting some monster rattan from GW, if the guy I sent found any.

When I was at Candlemas a month ago, Baron Erik was selling rattan and had a few 'ginormous' pieces for sale. Really thick stuff.

He is from Indiana, and I have no contact info... Maybe someone local to him will pipe up with some info for you.

I almost bought a piece to make a tapered spear. I know Ustaad bought one to carve a scimitar.

I may just go with some ICEFALCON 2.5" when he gets back from Gulf wars. It will probably do for a prototype.
I won't be able to work on it until April anyhow. :(

I still have some 2 to 2.5 inch rattan leftover from Gulf Wars. I can check and see how thick the biggest is. PM or email me if you're interested.
