Attaching Maille to a helm

Post by cwr1000 »

I want to add the back drape of maille to my coppergate today but I don't have the brass. I was wondering how to attach it? the smallest that I have is 16g. mild but I want to avoid mild on an all stainless helm. I was thinking if I folded a peice of leather and riveted it every inch and a half or so and slipped a ring on the rivet but I am not sure if that will work.

I am wanting to make it so from outside in it goes maille drape, browband, backslats.

thanks!

Oh, it'd work. I'd still either sew the mail to the leather with stitching awl thread/artificial sinew, or thong it on with a leather thong. Either way, it's likelier to be smoother. Outside to in: leather band, mail, browband, slats.
