Looking For: Chainmaille Aventail

Post by GrumpyMacBastard »

I was going to buy a aventail this weekend for my helm but the place that I was going to buy from upped the price of the one I was looking at by $50. The price is still somewhat reasonable especially seeing how its welded stainless, but I wanted to post here to see if anyone can recommend another reliable vendor who has good prices.

This is what I am looking for...

~Stainless Steel, flat or round wire with the stainless finish, NO BLACKENED, NO EXCEPTIONS.
~"Long" measurement type, the type that extends over the shoulders.
~Must be riveted, or welded, this will be used for SCA combat.

Thanks in advance.

Atlantaarmoury, Icefalcon, would be the ones that come immediately to mind. Knut is another option.
These aren't all of them by far.

Ours are blackened but there is a simple process for removing it and giving it a burnished look.

Honestly, I would buy the welded stainless one for $50. Hard to beat that price.

Cheers!

He said that they "UPPED" the price by $50. The aventail wasn't $50.

Duke Icefalcon, what would be the ballpark price of one with the brush finish?

And yeah if it was $50 I would have bought a bunch of them lol. Knut if I remember correctly is over weldedchainmail.com, he is the one I am looking at but back when I was price hunting the aventail I was looking at was $175, now its $225. Thats still a good price but I want to explore all my options before making a selection. Its not like its a mad dash to get this ether, just as long as I have it before Pennsic. So I got time to shop.

Both of my aventail sizes have the same mantles. The only difference is that the long aventail has a 6 inch high cylinder attached so that you can trim it to fit the helm.

I'd be willing to drop the price a little for a 5/16" stainless steel aventail that I have in the works now.

Ben,
My squire brother is looking to buy a shirt. You have prices for titanium shirts on your site, but the FAQ says you do not work in titanium yet?

Well Ben you got Knut beat by $25 for the 3/8" "Long" Aventaille. What does your turn around times look like?

Duh. I should have known that was too good to be true...:)

We can do the burnishing for you for $50, or you can do it yourself using a cement mixer and adding some sawdust and letting it run for a bit.

Cheers!

My turnaround is around a month and a half except for the 5/16" size (around 2 weeks) since I already have the rings in stock.

I do make shirts from titanium butcher's mesh but I'm still working out the feasibility of larger ring sizes in titanium. Once I hear from my ring maker I should probably be able to get into larger Ti sizes.

I currently have a mild steel aventail mounted on my helm from Atlanta Armoury. Full review forthcoming, but suffice it to say that there are no major problems whatsoever, and it was a major jump in appearance and maintenance compared to the older butted aventail.

Still have to stitch the back on, but review should be within the week or so.
