14th C 7 piece breastplate

Post by Leo Medii »

For sale.

Need to recoup from major car repair.

$250.00 takes it, in good shape as it's my personal armor. Made by Balin and Kelson out east. Has set up for sword and dagger attachment, and rolled edges.

That looks like stainless- is it? What are its dimensions and your chest size?

Dammit, I'm so tempted but really oughtn't to drop the money... I want a breastplate with kidney protection for SCA wear, I have 2 globoses (globeese?) already, but they are front-only- nice to look at, not list-legal.

ever thought of wearing kidney protection under your jupon? that would allow ya to use the globose w/o an issue

This has SCA legal kidney protection. It has never failed an inspection when worn alone. It covers on me all but about 4 inches of area on the back.

As Sixtus notates (this is what I do) is wear a lifting belt (the black stretchy elastic kind with velcro) with steel plates riveted to it under a gambeson. Then you wear your mail on top of that, then the breast plate. No one can see the back/kidney protection, but it's there when the marshal punches you in the back.

Possible in an absolute pinch, but I don't much care for the way weight/kidney belts collide with the globose, and my arming coat is too corset-tight to wear anything underneath.

The wraps cover all the SCA marshallate areas.

However, I have seen it as a common misconception that these don't cover the back because of the small gap where they buckle.
And, I would take this over a kidney belt any day protection wise!

Yeah, you pretty much have to be piked straight on from behind in order to sustain a spine hit in one of these...

I will concur with Sir Leo. I have a churburg with wrappers and I don't have to wear anything under it ( i do just to add a "skid plate" and prevent fat being pinched ;) ) These work wonders and the small gap isn't anything to fret.

Thanks for saving me from an impulse buy. :) I'll get some unfinished kidney plates from Cet instead and trick out my existing BPs as needed.
