3 Man Melee Ideas

Post by hearts »

Hello all,

I am running a 3 man melee tourney at an event in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone had some clever ideas about format etc???
I am tring to come up with some way of mixing the fighters up so they get lots of fighting without being with the same team each fight.

Bear pit,round robin.....??

This will be a tourney without a winner ? Just trying to imagine how you could find a victorious team when no team stayed together....

As to how to change up the teams - Each bout a winning team swaps a fighter with the team they defeated. If you start by counting off by threes and have everyone keep track of their number, then you can cycle through the numbers. First round, you switch 1's, second round 2's, third round 3's, 4th round start over with 1's again.

How many are you expecting in the lists?

Try giving each fighter a color (red, blue, yellow) and a number (1-6). That gives you 18 "slots" for 6 teams per round. Each round, make up a different grouping, such as all #1 are a team. Next round all colors are grouped by odd/even, or high/low (blue 1-3 is a team, etc.). Third round, 1R, 2B, 3Y is a team. So on, for six to eight rounds. If the combos are pre determined, it shouldn't take long to chart team pairings.

More than 18 fighters, and you can set up two equal pools of teams. Each individual fighter on a winning team gets a tally mark or token when his ad-hoc team wins. Top three fighters in each pool compete in finals.

Like Alex's but more simple. Number the guys, and put the numbers on chits in a bag. Draw to two teams of three. Everyone on the winning team gets one point. Repeat until bag of is empty. Means everyone will get one fight. You'll probably have to pad out one of the last teams.

Fill the bag back up, repeat.

Person on the most winning teams will have the most points. If you do it fore more that 7-8 bouts you'll most likely have a clear winner.

Give me a call if you wanna chat about this :) I've been wanting to run a 5 man version of this for a while.

We do one we call "Tree of Life". Designate a specific location as a regen point. Start the battle as a free-for-all. As the fighters die, they head to the regen point and wait. Once there are three of them, they immediately form a team and move from the regen point. You can set the battle to last for a certain amount of time, perhaps 30 minutes to an hour. Once you've reached the time limit, close the regen point and let the battle continue to last team/person standing.
