Ugly Reposse' attempt (pics)

Post by Klangiron Skullthumpa »

I tried my first reposse' attempt today. Boy was it ugly. I cut a "spaulder" from some super thin sheeting I have to do a lil practice. All I used was the pick on the back of my planishing hammer. I got the rough idea but its a damn ugly bit of work. I stopped when I pushed that thin stuff too far and it started ripping. Painted it up and added the lines for the details I was headed for before giving up.

Hey, look at that! I think your metal-moving ability will not be a problem, we just have to come up with the proper pattern so it looks right in the end.

The main difficulty I see is of keeping a proper spaulder shape while applying the relief forming, and you seem to be doing that already pretty well.

With baby at T-9 days and counting, I don't think I can make a hammer in any time soon to help, but we can probably bang metal over at my place sometime.

Hi Klang

Soon you will be pounding out skull faces. Yes?

Happy metal pounding.

I think I can get a better feel when I swap over to the 16 ga. I'm already planning on making some fine chisels for details and am thinking of going ahead and putting the forge together and try a bit of hot work for some of the basic shapes.

Already though of skulls Hal, just thought I'd try this in a baboon face in case I make a monkey out of myself. :P
