Ramon Llull Llibre de l'orde de cavalleria translation

Post by Mother of Heroes »

Since there was discussion of the possiblity of a translation from medieval Catalan to modern English on another thread that seems to have been visited by a drive-by troll, I thought I might start a new one here.

I e-mailed Dr. Noel Fallows, a professor here at the University of Georgia, about just such a translation, and he said that he will begin working on a translation of Llull this summer, to be published in a volume of modern English translations of three 14c Iberian chivalric manuals. Talk about timing! He has already completed work on the first manual, The Book of the Order of the Band (Orden de la Banda) a book of statutes of this obscure monarchical order of chivalry founded by Alfonso XI:

Dr. Fallows' specialty is Iberian chivalric literature. Plug his name into your favorite search engine and see what comes up. Some of it is in English and some in modern Spanish. (How much high school Spanish do you remember?)

I have a book containing translations of some of the Banda's statutes. Some years ago I transcribed them into my computer for the benefit of a Queen, but I've no idea where that may be now. I would have to retype them, probably.
