I received and wore my first full plate arm with an articulated elbow. While it's good armor, it takes some getting used to. I can see how the arm must of been one of the harder parts of the body to protect considering it can flex, twist, etc.
My question is, what's the best and most comfortable type of arm armor? Would a floating elbow be much different?
I imagine one of the best would be the later medieval armor that included turners - http://www.merctailor.com/catalog/produ ... ucts_id=31

Actually the best arm harness is the one that fits YOU perfectly. The one that when you wear it, you have no issues.
the KIND is not nearly as important as the fit.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

the best arm armour is the one that fits you right. As alot of others will tell you- theres no such thing as one kind thats best for everyone (otherwise everyone would wear it, and thatd be boring wouldnt it?)
Personally i wear HotW bazubands (the old leather ones, not the new plastic dealios). I love them because they have awesome mobility, are lightweight, and protect the forearms really well.
Its all up to what fits you as to what will work best.
Edited to add i was ninja'd by insane..... damn landsknechts anyhoo

My personal arm harness is a free floating elbow and vam I wear nothing of a rear brace but I wear my arm harness under my Gambeson so nothing is shown I agree one that fits you in every way is the best I have had some piss poor fitting arm harness and that's why I wear what I wear now because it fits me and I don't have to fight the arm harness and the person I am fighting too.

I just want to add that I didn't wear a very solid rearbrace for years and now I've got a fatty deposit near my left bicep that causes me some pain when it's getting ready to rain. It took years for it to develop and I guess I never learned to adequately defend against that shot; but now that I have it, it's here for good.
Some helpful individual will probably say, "well, just learn to not get hit in the same place all the time." I say, "all well and good, but adequately protect the areas where you find you're taking a lot of blows or you might develop some nasty little bump that'll never go away."

The Germans used a floating couter, even with full plate. I think that's the best arm harness. Using an arming jacket with the pieces pointed to it goes a long way to make things comfy and keeps everything rom sliding down.
