Does anyone know if single ocular bascinet visors existed back in the day? If so do you have a reference for any images showing these or extant examples? I'm not familiar with them and was wondering if it is a modern construct only. Steel Mastery is selling these.

Bascinet With Visor (Single Ocular)
http://steel-mastery.com/index.php?&mod ... duct_id=35
A friend of mine recently received his long past due bascinet, with a single ocular. It was in a box that appeared to have been pretty much destroyed by customs, leaving some credence at least to their explanation that there are some shipping problems that are not under their control.

Single Ocular Bascinet Visors?
Is the SCA a better place for having you in it? If not, what are you doing there?

Funny, right as I read your post I was trying to make sense of some randomly weird basicnet effigies in European arms and armour by ashdowm. Ive seen a few single occular types on various bascinets and pre bascinets. Though there are a couple things that I'd almost argue are actually sallets and sugarloaves, but yeah these citations might help. I'd scan them if I weren't half full of sake and on my way to hit the hay.
Pg156 shows a a bascinet and coudieres, Meliadus MS(Add. 12,228). In it the bascinet has what appears to be one big slot. Page 151 shows three more examples of the same
Pg 149 shows a bascinet and visor from 1330 (roy ms 15, g 6.) that has one raised ridge with a bunch of tiny holes stretching across the entire eye region to make one occular of sorts.
pg 114 they have a couple of super tight fitting sugarloaf heaume's with hinged visors that almost look like one continous eye slot. (add. MS 10,294)
pg 112 has what looks like either an early bascinet, or a sugar loaf raised out of one piece with a giant oversized flat visor which seems a bit large and rounded with a ridge for the occular that has tiny rectangularly vertical slots cut out over the length of the ridge for the occular its from 1250
course on a couple of those could just be the angle they were were drawn at, but I dont see why it wouldnt be feasible.

instead of scanning I opted to try to reproduce a couple of the effigies in paint.
Hope they help

Funny you should post on this.
I just made 2 single occular klappvisors for my bascinet.
Poland, Hungary, Bohemia, Southern Germany possibly.
I will need to dig through some of the books I was looking at.
I made one very small, just slightly bigger than face opening in the maile, and the other similar but longer.
Great vision, plus i think they are cool as hell
