T-Bob - Quick Lamellar Question

Post by ushumgal »

I finally have time to start on my lamellar – I’m taking my aluminum in to have it chopped up ($30 to save me hours on the Beverly sounds like a good deal to me!). Here’s my question – is there any particular reason you use longer lamellae for the skirt and shoulder portions of your harness? Or is it just to save time and effort?

Thanks!

Ushumgal:

Three reasons.

 • Because there are extant suits showing it laced that way.
 • Because it affords an opportunity to show different lacing styles concurrent in period.
 • Because it saves time and effort.

In light of Reason #1, I think that’s why our medieval forebearers built lamellar the way they did! Image

Well, if it was good enough for them, it's good enough for me!

Thanks!

I wear a lamallar jacket and would like to add some hip protection. How does one lace the plates that go over the hips and thighs?

Thanks!

Check out T-Bob's article - it's quite thorough:

is it just me or does every one of T-Bob's pics make you think twice about going to the same tourney he is in? Image IMO, his pics (that i've seen anyway) make him look about 6'7" and about 280lbs of pure kick-my-ass-all-over-the-place muscle. any other weight there may be is inconsequential because i'm scared. any less weight don't make me any less scared. or any less height...

*reflects on the falchion pics*

T-Bob is as nice a gentle as you will meet. He really is just a big pussy cat.

And I am not just saying that cause I am his man-at-arms either! Image

You know Angus, I was just thinking the same thing. I'm a mostly little guy.

I can only imagine T-Bob swinging around a pole weapon.

I think I picture it rather like Sauron in that big battle at the start of Fellowship of the Ring.

Maybe I should invest in blackened stainless armour...
